DESCALING
We recommend descaling the brewer at least once every 100 uses. If you have hard water, descaling more often is recommended. We recommend using a good quality biodegradable and phosphate-free coffee machine descaler. (Please note: Descaler should not be confused with Cleaner. They serve different purposes.) Descaler is designed to break down mineral buildup inside your brewer to ensure great coffee and consistent functionality. Follow the descaler manufacturer instructions for use. (We do not recommend using vinegar to clean or descale your brewer. Vinegar may not effectively descale your brewer, and can be difficult to rinse thoroughly. Vinegar may also leave behind an odor that can impact the flavor of your coffee.)

"This is for Bonavita, not for publication. I'm happy to have replaced the original Bonita unit bought 8-10 years ago, which finally gave out. I'm sorry the Wirecutter didn't review this home brewer (silly reason having to do with questions about your tech support). Anyway, this product is great. It's simple but offers the important pre-brewing warmup feature. Coffee is terrific, which is the point. NOTE, however, that the hanging basket is a mistake. Why??? It offers nothing and creates an opening between the urn and the filter basked where heat is lost. We kept the filter basked from the previous model and we are using that. It fits, just. Congrats on a great product, and thanks for listening."
